I was going to turn 3 in Sept.
Cliff was a very big dude. Big sleepy looking dude. And looking at his B-R page, a lot better than I remember him.
Steve, it looks like he caught a few games as a Yank. How’d that look? I have a feeling Montero will look the same behind the plate (Maybe bigger and slower).
Johnson was a DH dressed as a catcher, no question.
He probably should have been a 1B or a LF. But, he couldn’t handle that and the Astros forced him into catching.
That said, he wasn’t terrible. Think: Matt Nokes or Victor Martinez in terms of defensive value/style.
Memory may be playing tricks on me, but I don’t think Nokes nor Mike Stanley or even Don Slaught for that matter were all that bad behind the plate.
