Pondering Jeter’s 3,000th

How cool would it be if Jeter’s 3,000th hit came in the form of a grand slam homerun into the Yankees bullpen at Yankee Stadium? Of course, it’s very unlikely. But, it would be cool.
How about this? Say Jeter’s on 2,999 and he comes to plate against a pitcher who really falls towards first base in his follow-through. And, the third baseman is playing way back. Is it acceptable to bunt for your 3,000th hit? If it is, think Jeter would do it?
It is acceptable. And he may. Jeter has always been a team first guy.
It will come…
…on a slider away…
…that Jeter will hit softly to the left of the pitcher…
…and he will beat it out for an infield hit.
Either that, or he will loop it softly over the 2nd baseman’s head, and drop it into short right center.
It’s a line drive in the boxscore
It would be nice if it were a opposite field hit off an inside out swing, but given the way things have been going, it’ll be a seeing eye grounder between 3rd and SS.
It will be:
- single
- a massive standing ovation will occur
- Posada/Mariano will talk about all the years together
- Pettitte will chime in as well
- Girardi will praise him as a player and person
- The Yankees will continue to bat him 1st because the only one who can stand up to anyone unfortunately has passed away.
PS….I Love the Yankees……But I am really enjoying the games that have been played during this 15 day DL stint.

The Yankees can win without Derek Jeter…and without Jose Reyes too!
