Our daily paper, the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, had an article today about local boy Cito Culver. He’s going to be playing in a series in the area the next few days and hopes his friends will come out to cheer him on. Nice kid. And he’s doing quite well as you can see. We’re all very proud of him. One thing he did say is that there is a huge difference between high school and even the low minors and it takes some adjusting (Yup, just ask Derek Jeter about that).

The kid Ryan Flannery (number 4 for the pitchers) i played him in HS. wasnt anything special back then but got alot better in college somehow. crazy to see him pitching so wel. never thought hed play past college ball.

Am i mistaken or is Banuelos not on here???

    4. July 28th, 2011 | 9:03 am

      @ BOHAN:
He’s not doing too well, per his WHIP, so I left him off.

      Growth spurt…

One other thing, the training. There was such a big difference in training and practices from a HS to JUCO to D3 (at least in my experience), I would imagine it to be the same (large difference) once you get to the pros.

In Flannery’s case, I don’t know the secret behind his success, but having been drafted in the 47th round out of college, and recently getting a taste of AA (@ 25, he’s a bit old for the level), your initial assessment (wasnt anything special) may be right. He’s a bullpen arm, never started a game in his pro career. He may make it to the majors, he may not, but at least he played pro ball, which is very cool.

Yep, he needs to either increase his k’s or decrease his walks.
