Look at the Red Sox, Yankees, Rangers and Angels.

Either the Yankees or the Red Sox are going to win the East. And, either the Rangers or Angels are going to win the West.

And, most likely, it’s the two left after that who are going to fight for the A.L. Wildcard this season.

If the Yankees don’t win the East, should they be concerned about losing the ‘card to the Rangers or Angels? What do you think?

The Angels sort of scare me – they are 26-12 since June 13th. They are finding a higher gear. The Yankees, meanwhile, are 11-10 since July 3rd. That’s not a great pace. Texas, by the way, is 15-5 since July 4th.

6 game lead now in WC. Not worried. 6 games left with LAA.

Why did you pick three different dates? Let’s use an even parameter.

The Yankees, since June 13th, are 25-13. Just one game off the Angels’ pace. As clint also said, the Yankees have a 6 game lead now in WC, so essentially, they lost a game on the calendar. The Rangers, if you’re curious, were 23-15 during that stretch.

The Yankees are playing the Orioles and White Sox next. They also still have series against the A’s, the Royals, the Twins, and another series against the Orioles.

The only thing that is scary is the last stretch in September with the Rays, Red Sox, and Rays series back-to-back-to-back.

Let’s not forget that the Yankees are on the road, a ton, in August. That COULD be a rough road.

With any luck the Rays will have been eliminated. That would make it slightly easier.

Maybe, but they’re playing some pretty bad teams (MIN, BAL) on the road in August.

In August the Yanks have 6 games on the road vs. the Red Sox.

      4 vs. the White Sox
      4 vs. the Twins
      3 vs. the Royals
      5 vs. the Orioles

So yeah, 22 games on the road is a ton, but realistically, they can expect to win at least 11 of them. (2-4 vs. Red Sox, 2-2 vs. White Sox, 2-2 vs. Twins, 2-1 vs. Royals, and 3-2 vs. O’s).

Yeah, they might go 1-5 vs. the Red Sox, but they could also go 4-1 vs. the O’s. Yeah, they could lose 3 of 4 to the White Sox, but they could also beat the Twins 3-1.
