They Might Not Be Giants?

So, that team from Frisco went to the World Series last year and they want to get back this season too. Related, they traded one of their best pitching prospects – one that many consider to be among the 40 best prospects in the game right now – for a two-month rental on a bat (to help them get back to October baseball this year).
That, my friends, is “going for it.”
Will the Yankees have they same guts to get what they need over the next three days? Time will tell…
Steve, we know all about who Detroit traded for and gave up in return during the pennant race of 1989……….It must suck, in a way, to be a GM, no matter how good you do your job. Thousand say that they could have done it better. Hmmmmmmmmmm, there Are worse jobs, aren’t there?

Carlos Beltran > (Aaron Rowand+Andres Torres).
Beltran is also having a solid season, not unlike Rickey Henderson in 1993 (who was also 34 when traded). Alderson, then with Oakland, got a top pitching prospect (Steve Karsay) from the Jays as well.

If anything, given their respective place in the standings, that fits the criteria of “going for it,” more than the Giants-Mets deal.
There is also another big difference…The Yanks don’t have the rotation that the Giants have at the major league level. Giants can afford to give up a top pitching prospect because of this…the Yanks can’t unless they are getting a top flight starter in return. I’m not sold on Jimenez or Kuroda at all and would not give up any top pitching prospects for them.
