CC & Nova Are “Win Days” For 2011 Yankees

To date, this season, the Yankees are 39-14 in games startes by CC Sabathia and Ivan Nova. That’s a winning percentage of .736.
And, this also means that the Yankees are 46-39 in games not started by Sabathia and Nova.
If you’re planning on attending a Yankees game in September or October, try and get one when CC or Ivan is starting.

Sort of like Terry and Ford back in ’62.
What most people know: The Yankees won the AL pennant in 1962 by 5 games over the Minnesota Twins, 96-66 to 91-71. Ralph Terry and Whitey Ford were a combined 40-20.
What most people don’t know: Ralph Terry made 5 starts against the Twins that year, going 5-0 with a 2.32 ERA and 4 Complete Games. Ford was 2-1 in 3 starts versus the Twins.
Or Guidry and Figueroa going 45-12 in 1978, while the rest of the staff was 100 55-41. Of course, Steve’s idea wouldn’t have worked out as well in the post-season, as Figueroa never pitched a good game in 7 post-season starts.
Or Pettitte and Cone in 1996, when Pettitte and Cone were 28-10, and the rest of the team was 64-60.
