Francona Out Of Beantown?

Good for him. No need to stick around there now, after this season. He’ll get another job in a heartbeat. There are a lot worse people managing big league teams. He can help a lot of teams.

Both Chicago teams may have interest in him, as well as the Cardinals if Overmanager of the Year LaRussa doesn’t return.
I want to say that the Yankees should hire him as a consultant – and do a brain drain on him for all the Red Sox intel. But, then, being inside, he would also have the Yankees intel for when he moved over to his next job. So, probably better to just let him go without a play at him.

It wouldn’t matter if he had Yankees intel since there’s no reason to expect that he’d be hired in Boston again. And, frankly, even if he were hired by Boston (or Tampa, Toronto or Baltimore, for that matter), it still wouldn’t matter. Cashman smartly hired Kevin Towers last year as a consultant. Are we afraid that Arizona now has Yankee intel?

My point being that I agree completely with your idea that the Yanks should see if Francona is interested in taking a year off and working in the front office in a senior scouting capacity but that the fear of him running off with our secrets should not preoccupy or prevent us from hiring a qualified candidate.
I respect Francona and wish him well. He may not feel this way tonight but he’s lucky to be done w/ that crew.

Hey!
Welcome back, MJ. Even if it’s only for a reply or two.
Always liked and respected Francona even though he didn’t have my best interests at heart as a Yankee fan
It’s unfortunate that his team took advantage of him, but ultimately, it’s their loss and I think our gain.
Also, I think it was a mistake letting Beltre leave and bringing in Gonzalez. Youkillis physically broke down whereas I’m guessing he would’ve been OK manning first base, and Beltre had a great year. Gonzalez had some great numbers, but it sounds like he’s a bit of a diva.
Boston is kind of a mess right now, I hope it stays that way.
What a dumb move. Good luck replacing Francona.
