• Closing Time

As mentioned previously, this is it for me.

Outside of an occasional book review, I don’t see myself posting much here going forward.

It’s been fun sharing the last seven Yankees seasons with you.  And, thanks for your interest, support and feedback over the years.  It’s all been very much appreciated!

As promised, if you want to continue Yankees-talk with the friends that you’ve made here, please feel free to use the forum set up for that.  (And, I may just  pop in there from time to time as well.)

And, of course, you can still follow my work at the B-R.com Blog – as I will continue to make contributions there.

    Hasta amigos!

I was going to reply “Vaya con Dios, Steve”, but maybe “Hasta la vista, Steve” is more what I want to say.

Be happy in whatever you decide to do, Steve.

You already know how much I will miss your daily posts, Steve. This has been, by far, the best Yankee related blog I’ve had the pleasure to read over the past 7 yrs. It’s been the first thing I read in the morning and when I get home from work.

My best wishes to you and your family. Thank you so much for all the pleasure you’ve given me over the years and for naming this blog w/ the Scooter in mind.

      Ciao paisano.

I’ll be in touch via e-mail in January, if not before.

Hope the fire rekindles down the stretch next season.

Thanks all! It’s very kind of you to share these words and appreciated!

Note: My comment at B-R.com needs a follow-up. More on that to come later today.

And it looks like the Yankees wanted to kick you on the way out:
“Yankees re-sign General Manager Brian Cashman to a three-year contract”

Not a fan of the GM, but I do find it hilarious that he’s the reason you are leaving. I’m sure Cashman is wearing his elf costume, waving the big WasWatching foam finger, and saying ‘Goodbye, Steve-Lo!!!’.

Anyhow, peace….till you return. We all know you will, but till then, wish you well my brother!

    7. November 1st, 2011 | 1:17 pm

      @ Garcia: LOL.

Fear not, I’m done. This is it.

With Steve gone I’m out of the following blogs business. I’ll stick to following national writers and NY writers on twitter. The younger blogs are god awful. Slaves to stats. Bow at the altar of Cashman. All about snark. Really awful reads.

I just found this out today. Bummer.

    10. November 1st, 2011 | 4:37 pm

@ Jake1: I feel your pain and hope you find something out there that works for you. FWIW, I’m using the same “follow” plans as you these days.

      @ Steve L.:
Sounds like nonsense to me…what effort do they put into the blog that you and others create? None is the answer to that question….

or really very little, to keep software patched (if they’re using external software for blogging).

Either way, doesn’t add up to me.

      Thank you, Steve.

I seldom post, but I have addictively checked in daily (year round) almost from the outset. It has been a pleasure to read the musings of someone who (usually) agrees with me!

@ Corey Italiano: Dunno. But, I do know that Sean is one of the most honorable people that you could ever hope to meet in life. On a scale of 1 to 10, he’s a 14. I respect his decision – 100%.

@ Molon Labe: Thanks – always nice to hear from someone such as yourself!

Good luck Steve, I’ll miss this site. Been too bummed when I do log on here to even post but good luck.

Thank you so much for all your efforts over the years Steve. Being a Yankee fan will never be the same. Best of luck.

Best of luck Steve. You’ve given countless readers countless hours of insight, wit, and humor that we all will miss. I almost wish that you’d sold-out and got a gig with Bristol. Naaaaaaaah. Thanks for the memories!

Brackman? That one now has the Cashman “It seemed like the right move at the time” rubber stamp all over it. :-)

is anyone really surprised by this? i bet that post will remain the top story for at least a few more days. keeps him in the spotlight *that* much longer.

steve l – making himself bigger than the blog

i guarantee this guy is back by the spring.

    21. November 3rd, 2011 | 12:57 pm

I usually ignore trolls for all the obvious reasons. But, in this case, I’ll bite and address the miscreant’s claim.

      @ jerryran:

Do you have a clue regarding what a “blog” is? By defintion, it’s:

a Web site that contains an online personal journal with reflections, comments, and often hyperlinks provided by the writer; also : the contents of such a site.

      Origin of BLOG
      short for Weblog
      First Known Use: 1999

“Making himself bigger than the blog”?

Idiot, again, a blog is an online personal journal, by definition.

Get a clue. Or, better yet, get a life and go away.

OK….I am still checking in so I have to say something….

None of my business of course but:

This troll is stirring the pot…and while the site is currently “dead” …HE STILL KEEPS coming back.

Its odd….I am wondering if he has ever made any comments regarding any story other than the end of WasWatching?

I think he was the last one picked for kickball in elementary school….and someone might want to let him know that while this is a very good website…..there is no “spotlight” to be shown.

Steve: you have taken some well deserved grief regarding A-Rod (my opinion), but this guy is out of line with the personal attack.

    23. November 3rd, 2011 | 4:46 pm

      No sweat.

In the end, the troll was right about one thing – sorta/kinda.

I am “reopening” the blog. But, it was not my plan to do that when I closed it. My hand has been forced by things I had no control over. So, in the next few days, I will be posting here again. But, it will be much different than before.

I’m not sure what you mean by “My hand has been forced by things I had no control over.” or “it will be much different than before”. But whatever it is, I’ll be happy to read what you have to say and particpate when I think I can add value.

Whatever. I’m just glad to have the chance to converse with you and this group.

Kind of like the Deadheads after Garcia died when they kept showing up at cancelled concert sites, I found myself unable to delete the link to the WW website, and still checked in every few hours.

      Bravo. Welcome back.

      B-R, eh?

Kinda figured that would be the case. Hopefully some of the guys there will find their way here?

    32. November 4th, 2011 | 6:46 am

The other guys have started their own blog, High Heat Stats.

    33. November 4th, 2011 | 7:13 am

Via email, I was asked “So what changed, if you don’t mind me asking?”

And, here’s my answer to that:

It really was the whole B-R.com blog thing. I was stunned that he closed it because I was looking forward to doing it. And, once it finally sunk in that he wasn’t going to change his mind and it as closed for good, I thought about it some more. If not for the $$$, I would have opened a new blog. I went back and forth on using WW to pick it up – mostly because I didn’t want to hear 1,000,000 times “I knew you’d be back!” But, then I figured “F whatever anyone thinks” and went for it.

It’s not going to be WW like it was before – it’s really me just posting at WW like I used to at B-R.com, with maybe me being a little looser – the B-R.com guys didn’t appreciate a lot of attempts at humor, etc.

I’m sharing this in case others have the same question/thought and then this will close that out.

Steve, BRAVO, glad your back, and hope you do what enjoy with the blog. May Joseph Campbell’s “Follow you’re bliss” mantra bring you more zest for writing your blog. I’m sure that many of us would like nothing better. “La dolce vita”, eh?
