I’m impressed that Cano knew that Rickey and Tino wore #24 before him.

Did Leno say that Whitey Ford played in 1977? LOL, Jay and his writers were only off by…10 freakin’ years!

      @ MJ Recanati:
I was impressed by that too. I was impressed with how much Yankee trivia Cano knew. Good stuff here!

The “Whitey” comment by Jay was funny too.

Jeez, why Steve? That seems kind of mean on your part, but whatever.

Agreed. I always imagined that most players didn’t know much trivia but Cano definitely proved that he cares about Yankee history.

Knowing the Berra quote and knowing Elston Howard? Fantastic showing on Robbie’s part.

Fun stuff.. in 1987 Ford admitted he doctored the baseball in hopes of keeping his pitching carrer alive.. Funny he said he use to keep a roll on deoddorant in his jacket on the bench to keep his fingers sticky and would use the rosin bag to remove dirt and make the ball cut more…

Deodroant and ROIDS and PEDS.. oh my!..

Am I the only one who thought that it was all somewhat scripted and that Cano was seeded with some of the answers before the quiz?

Yeah cause we (more like you) shouldn’t expect him to know anything. Why would Cano have any knowledge of baseball history? It’s just ludicrous to think that, Steve.

And even if it was scripted, so what? It was meant to be for a laugh. You seem to be the only one thinking: “and here I thought Cano was just some dumb guy…oh wait…maybe he is dumb. MAYBE THEY GAVE HIM THE ANSWERS!!!! That’s it, I feel so much better now because I know he’s still stupid.”

Surely Steve, your not suggesting Jay Leno and Dan Enright have something in common here?..

Twenty one and the tonight show are hardly the cause of an internal investigation.. Heaven knows, one scandal is enough in YANKEELAND!..But would that mean the big D was in on it too?.. Sure hope he got his daughter and son attending the right colleges.. How embrassing would that be if he went to Yale and she went to Penn??…

Actually, I would be amazed that he would know any baseball history. In fact, I would be amazed if ANY MLB player knew anything. You see, while us baseball nerds are reading book, watching games, and playing on the internet, these guys are out playing baseball – and that’s why they are so good at it. Wasn’t it Don Mattingly who said that he thought Babe Ruth was a cartoon character until he was with the Yankees for a few years?

      @ sicilianlou:
I think Ford mentioned that he used his wedding ring as well to scuff the ball too.

I heard that too, but I never read the book . I might have to pick it up now that I finally finished reading Money Ball.. Pretty decent book…

I’ll admit i was kinda surprised Cano knew so many of the questions…. but when i thought about he gets to talk to all Yogi and these old players stories every spring training and at different times through out the year so you gotta figure he has to take some of it in…
