Check out the play to close the top of the 9th inning in this game. You don’t see that everyday!

I can picture it as it probably happened. Landis on Second, Fox on Third. One Out. Flyball hit to Center. Mantle makes the catch and fires it towards home. Fox decides not to trust Mantle’s arm and trots back to Third, but Landis, running after the catch is heading to Third himself. McDougald at SS screams to Howard, playing First and in position to cut the ball off, to relay the ball to Second. Which he does to force out Jungle Jim. Fox now makes the belated and unfortunate decision to try to score from Third, but McDougald’s throw home gets him for the third out. Whoa, Nellie! Not your best moment, was it?
I don’t think the out was made at second.
If it was, that’s a triple play.
Right You are. It should be “to try to forcr out Jungle Jim.” Once Fox saw the throw heading to 2nd he made his dash. So McDougald stepped up and tossed it home. Believe it or not this once happened to me in Senior Little League when I was on Third. I don’t know why but I thought I could make the 90 feet before the time it took for the throw to go to second and back to home. I couldn’t. So there’s one thing I have in common with a Hall Of Famer.
