Any guess as to who this is – with a SLG% decrease five years in a row now?

Hint: He’s under contract for the next five years with the New York Yankees at a salary around $23 million per year.

Well at least we won’t have to worry about both scenarios. He’ll either get the dingers and the dough (I guess that’s the best possible outcome for all) or he won’t get the dingers and he won’t get the dough (not good for either side). Looks like those PED’s really work. All of a sudden warning track fly balls seem to be the norm.
Yeah it’s ugly…I just don’t get his defiance by saying: my numbers will be there at the end of the year. Is his frame of reference last year’s numbers?

You could say that already happened. Wheras we heard Hank’s misinformed opinions all throughout 2008 (that is, when you could actually make out what he was saying through the silver spoon that was stuck in his mouth), we haven’t heard much from him since. The Yankees are better for Hank’s disappearance.

Every athlete is always the last to accept the realities of aging. You can’t expect an all-time great like Rodriguez to be circumspect and just say, “yep, I’m turning 37 in July and it’s over for me”. He has to continue to believe in what he’s saying — even if it’s delusional — because part of what made him great was trusting that he could go on a hot streak at any moment.
Jeter was no less adamant that he was still productive, even when he looked so awful at the plate in 2008 and 2010 and the first half of last year.
