      Kerry Wood is a big deal in Cubland. Too big a deal if you ask me. There has actually been talk among some fans about his number being retired. He was 86-75 lifetime and was more about what might have been than what he was.

      Each fan base has its favorites and I see nothing wrong with that. Yankee fans practically put out a contract on LaTroy Hawkins’s life for being issued the #21 jersey. There’s nothing particularly rational about fan adulation; it’s a subjective, emotional thing and if Chicago Cubs fans embraced Kerry Wood, well, that’s a great thing. Who cares if he only won 86 games?
