Via Tom Tango, I see that Bill James has created a system to establish the dividing lines in baseball history. His answer:

Era 1 (The Pioneer Era), 1871-1892
Era 2 (The Spitball Era), 1893-1919
Era 3 (The Landis Era), 1920-1946
Era 4 (The Baby Boomers Era), 1947-1968
Era 5 (The Artifical Turf Era), 1969-1992
Era 6 (The Camden Yards Era), 1993-2012

It’s an interesting way to slice the pie. Me? If asked to answer it quickly, I would offer something along these lines:

    19th Century Era 1876-1900
    Dead Ball Era 1901-1919
    Lively Ball Era 1920-1941
    Integration Era 1942-1960
    Expansion Era 1961-1976
    Free Agency Era 1977- 1993
    Long Ball Era 1994- 2003
    PED Testing Era 2004-2012

There’s some periods that James and I agree on, for the most part. What about you? How would you draw the lines on baseball’s history?
