    Nope, not the down low…

    Via MLB

Yankees ace CC Sabathia is heading to the 15-day disabled list with a Grade 1 groin strain.

Manager Joe Girardi said Sabathia is expected to miss only two starts and should return to the rotation after the All-Star break. The club will announce a corresponding roster move Thursday, but right-hander Freddy Garcia will take Sabathia’s place in the rotation.

“I think you can tell by the way he’s moving around more than anything. He doesn’t like to come out,” Girardi said. “I’m sure we’ll be a little bit cautious when he comes back, and we’ll ask him. [The doctor said if] you give him the 10-15 days, that [injury is] going to heal and it should not be an issue.

“You could have tried maybe to have him not start this Friday and then having him start on Wednesday, but our thought it’s you’re risking him maybe missing seven or eight starts if he hurts it worse.”

Sabathia has started at least 33 games in each of his three seasons with the Yankees, and 2006 was the only season in which the big lefty made fewer than 30 starts.

Time for the Yankees to groin and bear it…

Unfortunate, especially since I had no idea he was even battling an injury at all.

Unfortunately the rumor is that Freddy Garcia will take Sabathia’s place in the rotation. I don’t know why Garcia is even on this team. David Phelps should be getting those two starts.

It’s because Brian Cashman signed him.

Girardi seems to think that “his stuff has come back some” in regards to Sweaty Freddy. They are planning on having Adam Warren piggy back off of Garcia after 50 – 60 pitches. Bleh.

Not EVERYTHING has to be a dig at Cashman. Seriously, how do you not get tired of beating the same drum about 24/7/365? I know you don’t care at all but, really, your credibility goes out the window when you take unwarranted shots at Cashman. It seems like you can’t control that reflex and you only serve to cut off your nose to spite your face.

In any case, no, I don’t think Garcia is on the team because Cashman signed him. I think the Yanks prefer veterans. My question was more in the “Phelps can do Garcia’s job just as well” vein.

Freddy threw 2 innings today. Looks like it may be Phelps afterall. Or Warren.

      And he threw them well.

Phelps is not yet streched out. Warren will pitch Friday vs. the White Sox; Garcia will probably start Monday vs. the Rays.

FWIW, since leaving the rotation, mostly in very low leverage appearances, including today’s high leverage situation:

      10 games, 17 1/3 IP, 12 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 12 K, 1 HR, ERA 1.56, WHP 0.87, K/9 6.2, BB/9 1.6, K/BB 4.0, HR/9 0.5, H/9 6.2

Pineda got hurt. CC got hurt. Pettitte hurt. All for different reasons. It happens. It happened to Toronto just a couple of weeks ago. It happened to the Red Sox last, and again, to a somewhat lesser extent, right now, with the simultaneous injuries to Beckett and Buchholz.
