Eye-balling the list quickly, I would guess that less than 25% of these teams made it to the World Series.  And, less than 15% won a World Series ring.

So many fans of these teams had their hopes and dreams, based on a fast start, hit a wall in October.   The race doesn’t always go to the swift, I suppose…

I bet a crapload of them made it to the playoffs. That’s all I care about for now.

Another post implicitly trying to set us up for one of your “I told you so’s” if the Yankees don’t win the World Series in 2012.

Nothing terribly predictive about a post that essentially says “bet the field.” I think everyone knows how much of a crapshoot the playoffs are. The great majority of those 37 teams made the playoffs — I only eyeballed the ’02 Red Sox and ’02 D-Backs that didn’t — and that’s all anyone should care about.

      @ clintfsu813:
You are correct! However in the new format, winning the division is also very important.

      Amen to that.
I don’t think anyone wants anything to do with a one game playoff.
