Not So Hot At The Hot Corner In The A.L. So Far This Season

As a kid, I marveled at the work that Graig Nettles did with his glove. And, since then, I have always had my eyes open for great play – defensively – at the hot corner. Related, here’s where each A.L. team’s collective third baseman rank, as of Wednesday morning, it terms of Total Zone Total Fielding Runs Above Average this season:
| Tm | #Fld | G | Inn | Ch | Rtot 6 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| KCR | 3 | 79 | 707.2 | 240 | 10 |
| TOR | 5 | 81 | 727.2 | 259 | 9 |
| OAK | 4 | 82 | 731.1 | 246 | 9 |
| MIN | 6 | 80 | 709.0 | 242 | 3 |
| TBR | 8 | 81 | 723.1 | 230 | -0 |
| SEA | 4 | 83 | 738.2 | 184 | -0 |
| CLE | 4 | 80 | 717.0 | 223 | 0 |
| LgAvg | 4 | 81 | 722 | 216 | 0 |
| CHW | 5 | 80 | 718.1 | 203 | -1 |
| LAA | 4 | 81 | 718.1 | 185 | -1 |
| BOS | 4 | 81 | 731.2 | 212 | -1 |
| DET | 3 | 81 | 715.1 | 214 | -6 |
| TEX | 4 | 81 | 722.0 | 185 | -7 |
| BAL | 5 | 80 | 734.0 | 209 | -7 |
| NYY | 4 | 80 | 714.0 | 190 | -9 |
| 60 | 1130 | 10108.1 | 3022 | -1 |

Just another way how A-Rod is not helping the Yankees this season?

Ouch! Watching A-Rod lately makes me wonder if: a) He’s not seeing the ball b) He’s hurting c) His brain just can’t process info like it used too, aka, he’s finished….. On TV he just looks frozen. Let’s just hope he needs contacts….
DRS and UZR paint a slightly better picture; he’s -1 run so far this year on DRS, and UZR has him, in effect, -4 runs.
Actually, he had a plus rating in both those systems a couple of weeks ago, so whatever’s going on with him defensively, it’s worsened in the last two weeks or so.
Slightly off topic, Steve. It’s a miracle you haven’t commented on this one yet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqHizJHhMLk
Or maybe you did and I missed the post.
@ Evan3457:
Evan you may be on to something, validating one of my “possibilities”. Maybe he “is” hurt. He looks like a statue, and doesn’t seem to want to dive…
@ KPOcala:
I mentioned this over a month ago…he doesn’t dive. Whether he can’t of won’t (because he’s afraid of re-injury, who knows?
I wish I could see the WW posts when Reggie was playing…

He comes off like an ass here. Please stop talking.
@ redbug:
I think I remember reading your observation, Redbug. Maybe my neurons are firing off so slow that I “thought” it was my spot, or as slowly as A-Rod seems to be moving
@ Corey: I was a big fan of Reggie back in the “Day”. But I have to admit that now, as back then, The Man just can’t STFU….
Off topic, the Pirates optioned Jose Tabata to AAA, hitting .230…

Maybe he’s pulling a Roger Dorn and he doesn’t want to deface his properity since he has dreams of being in Hollywood some day?

Is Damaso Marte still getting paid?
I don’t think so, but Ross Ohlendorf’s starting for the Padres these days, Daniel McCutchen’s in AAA, Xavier Nady’s stinking it up for the Nationals, and Karstens just came back from an injury, but he’s doing a decent job as the Pirates #5.
