Here they are, as of this morning.

I think its between Trout and Trout…. 13 and 20 points is alot with a month and half left… Especially the way Trout has been hitting all year

Jeter has a better chance of falling out of 3rd than he does of winning the batting title. I’m not saying that to knock Jeter, just pointing out that he’s four one-thousandths in front of seventh place but two hundredths behind Mickey Fish’s .340.
Question/thought:
Does it help Jeter that his .320 is built on so many PA whereas Trout’s BA has many less PA?
If Trout goes into a 30 At Bat skid, he would lose more points than Jeter in the same 30 At Bat skid, no?
@ Steve L.:
No, because PA does not enter into rge batting average calulation at all. However, the effect you describe would happen with regard to On Base Percentage (OBP)and PA.
@ Steve L.:
However, it seems you left Melky Cabrera off your list. It is my understanding that he is eligible for the batting title even though he is suspended for the rest of the season. Since he is only 1 PA from the 502 required, his BA would be recalculated by adding 1 hiless AB, giving him 159 hits in 460 AB for an average of .3456.
This is the average that any other potential batting champion will need to beat.
If Trout were to go 3-30, he’d still be at .323
Jeter has risen to .320 after a hitting streak, and he’s hitting .376 over his last 93 AB.
@ jllipo:
Melky doesn’t play in the A.L.
And,IIRC, the Batting Title qualifier is based on PA. That’s why I mentioned it. Of course, BA is calc’ed as H/AB.
