    Man, are the Rays smoking!

They are 15-4 in their last 19 games and that includes two games where they lost 1-0 and another where they lost 3-2.

On July 18th, they were 10 1/2 games out of first.

Amazing how quickly they got back into it…

Since July 20th, the Rays went 20-9 while the Yankees went 15-15.

    Yup, that will do it…

Too bad that Tampa only has 6 games left with New York this year.

Well the Yankees are 12-7 in August so it’s not like they’re playing horrible. Tampa is just hot now.

Then again, it’s been five days – Tampa is due to be victim to another perfect game.

Given the lead that the Yankees had, and the date then and now, etc.

If Tampa passes the Yankees and finishes first in the A.L. East, would this be the same type of choke as when Boston choked in 1978?

And, OMG, imagine if there was a one-game play-in to determine who had to play the other wildcard team in the one-game sudden death game?

No. In 1978 Boston lost the division in the one game playoff & went home. If the Yanks lose the division, win the play in game, then end up in the LCS while Tampa doesn’t, would anyone think the Yanks choked then?

The Rays pitching has been awesome. In 14 of their last 27 games they have held opponents to one or fewer runs.

Considering the offenses they’ve faced are below league average, it’s not that surprising that the pitching has done so well.

That said, it’s going to be fun seeing all these intra-division games if the teams stay close.
