Today, I will be attending my 12th Yankees post-season game. (I was there for these ten games, and this other one, prior to today.)

I consider myself pretty lucky to have seen these games in person – because I realize that there are a lot of other diehard baseball fans out there who were not as fortunate to see their favorite team in the post-season that many times.

Today’s game will be extra special because it will also be my son’s first ever Yankees post-season game. (And, the next time I get tickets to a post-season game, it will be my daughter’s turn to attend one of these contests.)

This will be my third “sudden death” Yankees post-season game. And, I just hope it’s more like Game 7 of the 2003 ALCS than it is Game 5 of the 2011 ALDS. In any event, it’s a big game.

I even said that to my son, who is eight, this morning. “Dude, we’re going today. Game Five. Winner take all. Important game!”

To which, he answered “Oh, it’s not so important. The games against the Tigers, next, are more important.”

How’s that for confidence? Well, I guess, at least one Yankees fan is not nervous about today…

..now, for his sake, Yankees, how about a win?

What a great birthday present! I hope it’s extra happy in that the Yanks win for him (and you too, Steve).

Have fun! I was at last nights game, my own first postseason game (and actually my first trip to the stadium). Let’s hope your son’s first turns out better than mine!

Glad your son was able to take in the game. I didn’t take in my first Yankees postseason game unti I was 21 :)
