Sabathia’s Game 4 Turd Lost In The Mushroom Cloud?
I know that it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that the Yankees were going to lose the 2012 ALCS. And, I know that the Yankees bats were MIA in Game 4 – as they were for much of the post-season. Also, I know that the Yankees defense in Game 4, yesterday, didn’t exactly help their guy on the mound.
Still, that all said, it was a “must win” game – by every possible definition – and the Yankees had their “ace” on the bump in the form of CC Sabathia.
The result?
The big man faces 25 batters and allows 11 hits and 3 walks. He doesn’t get out of the fourth inning and allows 6 runs, 5 earned, to cross the plate.
That sort of smells of Kevin Brown in Game 7 back in 2004, doesn’t it? And, shouldn’t Sabathia be more of a topic of conversation in Yankeeland today than he is?
Look, he threw one bad game out of three.
Are we all over Ibanez for striking out to end Game 3 too?

They should have inserted him into the lineup.

This was a down season all year for CC “I got my money” Sabathia. But because of two or three good starts non of that will be talked about.

Yep. Besides, everyone is too busy fixating on Rodriguez. Even after pitching game 5 in the ALDS, people were asking questions about Rodriguez. And he overshadowed this ALCS…

For all the obsessing about pitching here the last 6 months, the Yanks had one bad start out of nine playoff games. And for the 2nd year in a row, it’s the offense that crapped out in October – not the pitching.
Call me crazy, but CC does not respond well to extra rest. That rainout may have been the worst thing to happen to him. I would think a major league pitcher would be able to get around it, but as I recall numbers show he is not good on extra rest. (This all popped up in 2010 when Girardi pulled his infamous 6-man rotation to get everyone extra rest and the entire rotation ended up flaming out basicaly.e

Those games were close and competitive, and could’ve gone either way. It could be a failure of the offense, it could be decent pitching, it could be anything.
FWIW, in 3 starts this season, Verlander was 1-1 and the Yanks hit him to the tune of .294/.330/.529. Didn’t mean anything in the postseason.

Sounding like there’s some worry about his elbow, so let’s hope he’s not going to need serious surgery. In other words, he didn’t really choke.
Were they any complaints about his elbow after pitching 9 innings in Game 5 of the ALDS?
Sounds like he felt the pain between that game and the ALCS start. He’s going to see James Andrews, which is typically bad.
