• Should The Yankees Extend Joe Girardi Now?

The last contract extension that the Yankees gave Joe Girardi expires after the 2013 season.

This makes General Joe a lame duck manager next season in New York.  And, that’s never a good thing.

Girardi has managed the Yankees for the last five years.  He is a known commodity to the team.  They should know, now, if they want him beyond 2013.

If you were the Yankees, what would you do with Girardi’s contract?

Reading reports that the lineup and rotation were discussed as an organization, I’d argue that he’s already a lame duck manager.

If it were me, I’d wait another year. See how the team does after whatever offseason moves are made..

The reason being, I could see this team getting bad in the near future. When the team is bad, everyone wants the managers head. Why sign him to an extension if everyone may want him out by the end of the year. Then they’d be like the Marlins, on the hook for multiple years and millions while the manager sits at home.

I am a big Girardi supporter and I would not support offering him additional years. The team has had two very ugly postseason experiences (2010 and 2012), He apparently could not stand up for himself against that idiot GM with the zany line-up changes. I think Girardi is a good manager who handles the pitching staff very well, when he leaves the Yanks he should not be out of work for long.
