The Next Blue Jays Manager

I know it’s only been 4 weeks since the Toronto Blue Jays let John Farrell go to Boston. But, it seems like it’s been a lot longer than that…
When will they hire a new Jays skipper? And, who will it be?
Don Wakamatsu? Jim Tracy? Manny Acta? Jim Riggleman? Mike Hargrove? Sandy Alomar Jr.? Tim Wallach? Someone else?
No clue what they’re waiting for. Also no clue why retreads like Tracy or Riggleman would be on the candidate list? At some point isn’t it time to just cut the cord with guys that get passed around the majors like an STD? And for the Jays, who are trying to be so forward-thinking, it’s odd to see them considering some of these names.
Amen on the retreads.
It’s so sad that some guys in the minors don’t get consideration after putting in so much time there.
Granted, there are some Stump Merrills that should not be managing in the bigs. But, I am sure there are some future Joe Maddons down there waiting to happen too.

I saw on MLBN where Leiter and Plesac were talking about Paul Molitor. I think Willie Randolph should get another shot somewhere.
Overall, I’d agree that more “company guys” should get a shot. Maddon was a bench coach for a while with the Angels, before landing with the Rays.
Looks like their going with former Jays manager John Gibbons. Supposed to announce it today sometime.
I don’t think anyone saw Gibbons coming…
Interesting hire. You don’t see a move like this happening everyday.

“Interesting hire” is one way of putting it. Why hire a guy you fired just a few years ago? Seems pointless to tread on the same tire a second time.
And, yes, I understand that I’m a fan of the Yankees and they made a habit of hiring and firing the same few guys over and over. It was stupid of them too.

Speaking of not seeing things coming, did anyone check out the WBC qualifier last night? Brasil beat Panama. Not that it was a particularly well played game, but it was nice to see that MLB is starting to mine other places for talent than the usual suspects in Latin America.
Ramiro Mendoza pitched last night. Still as skinny as ever, but he has a paunch now.
