Huge Royals-Rays Trade
Via MLB Trade Rumors -
The Royals have bolstered their starting rotation for 2013 thanks to the addition of two quality pitchers. Kansas City has agreed to acquire right-hander James Shields, right-hander Wade Davis and a player to be named or cash from Tampa Bay in exchange for outfielder Wil Myers, right-hander Jake Odorizzi, left-hander Mike Montgomery and third baseman Patrick Leonard, according to a team release.
Great trade for both teams. I really like the prospects that the Rays got in this deal. And, the Royals just got 40% of a starting rotation. You don’t see that in a trade everyday.

I actually think this is a ridiculous trade for KC. As I said a few weeks ago, if you’re KC, why trade anything of value for Shields when he won’t be there in two years’ time?
As with a combination in chess, a trade like this is a result of having all the pieces in place. Then, they happen naturally.
The Rays had two good pieces they could part with without killing their rotation for this season. The Royals think they have a spare Wil Myers to throw around. We’ll see who’s right.
Meanwhile the Rays have added Escobar and Myers to their offense, with Shields being the only piece from their team sacrificed that could hurt them in a major way.
I just think it’s a cool deal that was made. I like seeing big trades go down.

I can’t for the life of me figure out who they think is the “spare Wil Myers” on their team.
