So, uh, they should spend, what, $15 million a year for 5 years for Anibal Sanchez?

Or is that just “buying talent”?

What do you want Cashman to do about this, exactly?

I don’t get this post…Sanchez is nothing more than JAvier Vasquez 2.0 and you hated Javy.

FWIW, Sanchez is shopping his offer to the Tiggers, so he may wind up with more money or years if the Tiggers give it to him.

Just having some fun.
You know that I would rather win with cheap, homegrown, talent than win with overpaid and old imports. I am more impressed by the GMs who win with a $80 mill payroll than those who form flawed winners with a payroll over $200 mill.

Why is it with the Yankees that the ‘train has left with Joba becoming a starter’? Is it that his medicals have something that haven’t been released to the press, or is it stupidity? I just can’t imagine any team in baseball not giving him a try at starting. Anyone have anything on this question?

I think the consensus of opinion is that his “makeup” is suited more for a relief role and as a pitcher that can start several times in a season if necessary, and not the role of a full time starter.

Wish I knew. Hasn’t been covered nearly as much as I thought it would or should have. Relievers are a dime a dozen, it’s not like they couldn’t have found one elsewhere. And it’s not like they gave him a chance, it was all of a sudden one day they said “you’re a reliever.”

Unless medical records show otherwise (and baseball history is littered with pitchers that can’t stay healthy; Burnett, Pavano & Bill Swift, to name 3), I’m gonna chalk it up to stupidity.

@ Raf:Raf, I’ll take door #3. Yeah pitchers get hurt all the time, but I believe he’s a free agent after this year, so why not give it a try?Baffling….And for all the angst, he did pitch well as a starter..

Which is why it was such a head scratching decision that he didn’t start in 2010. They also had the opportunity to send him down on more than one occasion to refine his secondary stuff, and or stretch him out, they didn’t do that either.

I suppose so, but they already had Verlander, Fister, Smyly, Porcello & Scherzer… It’s a shame that their farm system was so barren, or they didn’t have faith in their own guys that they needed to open up the checkbook to sign a 6th starter for 5 years…

Amazing, this time last year the minors were “stocked” with triple A starters, and were flush with catchers, throughout the minors. Now, the minors look like a Kansas tornado went through them. Amazing how fast “prospects” can get blown down.
