      Captain looks out of the base line there, so that should have been a DP, but that’s the way those games were back then – not for the faint of heart.

      Three and a half months before another Yankee SS would take Mike Torrez into the net at Fenway, Fred “Bleepin'” Stanley would hit one almost as important to the Yankees pennant chase.

      Ah, the old days, where, if you could still supposedly reach the base with a hand, you could take a shot at breaking up the DP…

      Such a different game nowadays. People’ll come up swinging if you try that, when before it was just part of the game.
