• 1928 Philadelphia Athletics Last 24 Games Of Season

    They were all on the road to close out the season.  (They went 14-10 in those games.)

    I cannot find any mention of why the played they month of September, sans one game, on the road.

    Worse, they played three double-headers in a row during this stretch.  Yikes.

      Earlier in the season they were on the road for a month also. Most likely has to do with the fact that they didn’t have air travel. Doing a little research it looks like a lot of teams from that era spent a few weeks on the road at a time.

      Thanks. Makes sense that the road trips were longer…
      but, for the whole and last month of the season? That’s murder.

      No interstate system yet either. Railroad was probably as good as it got, with maybe buses doing the shorter trips.
