PSA for my friends at MLB Network…
Derek Jeter is currently battling the Reds’ Joey Votto in MLB Network’s #FaceofMLB contest on Twitter. The winner of the matchup moves to the final four of MLB Network’s bracket to decide who is the Face of MLB. You can view the current bracket matchups here.
Fans can vote through today by tweeting #DerekJeter or #JoeyVotto. New York Knicks Center Tyson Chandler has gotten involved, asking his followers to vote for #DerekJeter. Currently, Jeter and Votto are neck and neck in the voting.

Joey Votto is an incredibly impressive ballplayer but, honestly, I have no idea what he looks like and I wouldn’t know it if I were standing next to him on a subway platform.
Derek Jeter is the face of baseball. I get that MLB wants to market players but they should pick guys that are a little more distinctive than Joey Votto. Pujols? Hamilton? Verlander? At least pick a guy that’s been on TV before that casual fans have heard of.

Yup. Everyone knows Jeter, even non-baseball fans. Doesn’t hurt that he has a name that too…
Der-rick, Gee-ter. It’s like Mick-ee Man-till.
Votto won in a landslide, 65% to 35%.

To be expected. Apart from Reds and Yankees fans, everyone else was a Yankee-hater.

Color me surprised.

Maybe, but Jeter is usually what people like about the Yankees.
Yankee fans see this for what it is – subjective time filler – and couldn’t care less about wasting time voting.
