Mike Silva & Joba Chamberlain

They got into it a bit last night on Twitter.
Joba’s ERA from 2009 through 2012 is 4.43. And, his ERA+ during that time is 101 (in 278.3 IP).
That said, when healthy, Chamberlain is a league average relief pitcher. Basically, he’s a right-handed version of Marc Rzepczynski. Guys like that should not get themselves into squabbles on Twitter. Geesh…

Silva’s reputation as a Twitter hack is well-earned at this point and last night’s display was pretty pathetic on his part.
Having said that, Joba (1) is a moron for engaging Silva in a war of words on Twitter and (2) is a moron for answering questions about being a starter. I should also add that if he still thinks he has (or ever had) four pitches, I’d love to know what they were. As far as I could tell, he threw a fastball up in the zone and a slider in the dirt, never mixed in even a third pitch, never changed his patterns, and never tried to establish his secondary pitch as one he could throw for a strike.

Joba’s a fat tub of stupid that just needs to go away. I hope he has the best year of his career, puts up zeroes every time out, dominates everyone he faces and then gets lost.
Here’s the plan…. 1) push away from the buffet, 2) shut up, 3) pitch, 4) shut up, 5) repeat.
We don’t need a celebrity relief pitcher with a ERA closer to 5 than to 3.
Give us 60+ solid innings with an era under 3, then we (and he) can talk.

Glad he’s focused on pitching only.
