The Yankees Bullpen In 2013 AKA The 2014 Yankees Closer Audition

So, when Mo Rivera hangs them up after this season, which he will, who will be the next Yankees closer?
I don’t think that David Robertson has the chops for it – stuff yes, stomach no.
Think David Aardsma and Joba Chamberlain will be lobbying for the job next year if they are pitching well this season?
Could Mark Montgomery spring past everyone and take the job over? Or, do the Yankees and Red Sox go into a bidding war over Joel Hanrahan?

Joba will not be on the Yankees next year. Book that. He already started talking about how he hopes someone will give him the opportunity to start next year.
I would say the job is Robertson’s to lose, frankly.

Yep. And if he can’t do it, someone else will.
Too soon to worry about next year’s bullpen.

IIRC, Girardi recently said he would be next in line.
I like Roberston. Seems like a good kid. I would like to see/hear less from his wife. But, she’s not Anna Benson terrible bad, yet.
That said, I wonder about him. I sincerely don’t think he has the stomach to close. We’ve seen him choke up some games. Also, I wonder about his stuff. He could have a nice long Tom Gordon like career. Then again, he could fall off the earth like Greg Olson, the former O’s closer. There’s just something about small fastball/curveball guys that makes me wonder if they last…
I don’t know…I think Robertson has the stuff and the stomach. I’m not looking forward to no more Mo.

I’m still in denial about this.

Where do you read about his wife? This place is the only place I’ve even seen mention her.

It just seems that, wherever he shows, she’s there with something to say too.
Robertson would have to cut down on his pitch count.

Ryan Madson bounced off the closers job for several years before succeeding at it.
Maybe the best thing is to sign a veteran 2nd tier closer, and make him take the lumps for “he’s not Mariano”, and then groom Montgomery or someone else.
