…and the limited hand-wringing that was going on about Juan Rivera and Matt Diaz having significant roles with the Yankees goes quickly down the memory hole…

They clearly needed a real 1B who could handle Nunez’s wild throws to first. That being said, I’m still a bit surprised by the move. I thought they would keep Rivera as a fourth OF since he was having such a good spring.

Woulda been the 5th OF once they traded for Wells. I don’t think the roster can sustain 5 OF at the moment…hmmm…let’s see.

      C: Cervelli/Stewart
      1B: Overbay
      2B: Cano
      SS: Nunez
      3B: Youkillis
      UI: Nix
      DH: Hafner
      OF: Gardner, Suzuki, Wells, Boesch
Probably need a 2nd backup infielder who can play both corners, or a 4-corners type utility guy for the 13th position player slot
      …and 12 pitchers.

Ack…forgot about Ben Francisco. They will carry 5 OF. I guess Francisco beat out Rivera because he’s better defensively.

Side note: Boesch has been working out at 1st base, and will likely serve as Overbay’s backup until Tex gets back, if and when he does.
