Lyle Overbay is having fun playing with the Yankees.

Overbay is old. And, he has his flaws/limitations as a hitter.

But, to me, he’s one of those guys who you have to watch play everyday to appreciate.

Having seen him now, as a Yankee, for a month, I have grown to like him. He’s a professional. Just the way he goes about his business – and how he looks in his uniform – says “ballplayer.”

He reminds me of a Sid Bream, David Bergman, Jim Spencer type of player.

Overbay will never make the Hall of Fame. And, he’s not a star. But, he’s not going to kill you and can help a winning team. It will be interesting to see how the Yankees handle him when Teixeira comes back…if he comes back.

I’ve enjoyed watching Overbay play the game, and grown to like him too.

Eventually, if everyone gets back, including A-Rod, the roster crunch created will require they let Overbay go, unless Youkillis or Teixeira gets hurt again. The relative good news is that Tex is expected back at least a month before A-Rod, and they’ll be able to keep Overbay long enough for Tex to test out his wrist, and make sure he can play through it, before the have to release Overbay.

Because if anyone knows anything about proper roster management, it’s the Yankees…..

And they’re doing it again with Nunez. This “he’s hurt and we’re not going to play him but we won’t DL him either”. Same nonsense that went on with Youk. And the Yanks have done this for years going back to the Joe Torre days.
