I love sabermetrics.  But, as a baseball fan, I understand and appreciate the struggle with statistics that require a super-computer to calculate.   There’s just something about the administrative ease of being able to see someone has 200 hits and 600 At Bats and knowing that means he’s a .300 hitter.  In any event, I love stats like this one.  And, if I were the GM of a team, this is the type of stuff I would want to see when evaluating a batter.

Two things that jump out at me here.

Only 30% of MLB singles are hard hit.

And, there doesn’t seem to be any connection to WHAV and BABIP.

A feather in the cap for DIPs?

      Ahhh… 200 hits in 600 AB = .333.

It didn’t help him this year, but Cashman said he has stat sheets that include stats like ball velocity off the bat. Can’t wait till we get to see stats like that.

Did you go to the fangraphs meet in NYC back in 2011? They had all kinds of programs generating neat advanced stats there. Stuff that generally wasn’t (probably still isn’t) available to the public. Well, not outside of MLB I guess.
