I watch a lot of major league baseball games. And, I go to a lot of minor league games where I get to sit close to the plate and/or on-deck circles.
Doing this, I see a ton of batters these days, while on deck or preparing to hit in the batter’s box, taking a very deliberate half-swing, where they accentuate the movement of their hands to ensure they are staying inside the ball with their swing path.
Picture a batter moving his hands, from the launching position, with a direct diagonal direction, close to his body, down to his waist, with an emphasis on the knob of the bat leading the way…
Shoot, I have even seen on-deck batters do this with a “one-hand” drill – alternating between the bottom and top hand – but, again, only taking it half-way from launch to the assumed contact point (without a follow though).
Anyone else notice this?
It’s not every professional batter that I see doing this…but, I see it, a lot.
