• Is There Any Chance That, During Spring Training, The Yankees Conclude To Play Jeter At 3B & Ryan At SS?

Isn’t the Yankees best overall infield option, right now:

    1B: Mark Teixeira
    2B: Brian Roberts/Kelly Johnson
    SS: Brendan Ryan
    3B: Derek Jeter

Granted, Ryan won’t hit a lick. But, his glove will help the Yankees pitchers – a million more times than Jeter at short.

And, while Jeter gives you no power at third, the Yankees can offset that with the power they now have behind the plate with Brian McCann. Also, platooning Roberts and Johnson may keep Roberts off the disabled list.

The key, of course, to all this, is getting Jeter to sign-off on playing third.

It would be nice for Derek to raise his hand on this now. But, he won’t do that. Therefore, it may come down to him showing up in camp and having everyone realize that his range is totally gone now, post-injury.

Let’s not forget that Jeter is still a huge question mark at this point. I don’t know how you could bank on him for anything at this point.

True. But, assuming he can stand, and run, a little, he should be able to hit and catch ground balls at third.

Has Cashman given up on Chipper Jones coming out of retirement?

Yes, but, reportedly, he still has a strong interest in seeing if Morgan Ensberg wants to make a comeback.

There might be a better chance of Jeter becoming part of this starting rotation by the end of Spring Training, than playing 3rd…
