And, I sort of miss all the empty blue seats too. But, those may be coming soon to the new Stadium.

A neighbor of mine attended a charity event years ago in which Gene Michael and Mickey Mantle were both among several former players representing the Yankees.

My neighbor waited in line for an autograph from Mantle for over an hour (IIRC), and when she reached the front of the line, she handed Mantle her son’s baseball glove, which she wanted signed. Mantle commented, “I don’t sign gloves.” Gene Michael leaned over to Mantle and said, “if you don’t sign this lady’s glove, I’m going to get on that microphone over there and tell everyone in this room what an asshole you are.” Mantle signed the glove.

Supposedly, he’s still there, and offered his scouting report to the Yankees on Tanaka:

Here is what Gene Michael reported to the Yankees braintrust concerning Masahiro Tanaka. The Yankees have been scouting him for several years. Gene stated: “I haven’t seen Tanaka pitch in person. I have looked at over 100 innings of tape and I believe Tanaka is a winner. He is certainly no Igawa or Dice-k, but not Darvish.”

How sad for you. If the Yankees are wrong, Cashman’s wrong, so is Gene.

Which way will you root now?
