      Mel Ott. Now that has to be the most underrated “great” player of today’s fans….. Like Unitas in the NFL (much more contemporaneous, right now), a player almost never talked about.

      A lot of fans like to “disparage” the players of “then” v “now”, and no matter what the great stat is, it’s usually (almost always) met with a “yeah, but”…. Something to think about. A lot of power hitters, hell a lot of high average hitters are knocked for a lot things (we know the arguments, so I’ll “skip a bit”), but consider that those balls were kept in play pretty much until it was “lost”, and those homers and hits look a weeeeee bit tougher……
