My guess is the Yankees. The Steinbrenners will sell the team to a group of investors. Derek Jeter will be one of those investors.

I can’t see it. The price tag will be too high. Jeter doesn’t travel in those circles. Yes, I can see Derek wanting to own the Yankees. Or, a part of it. But, I think it’s more realistic that he’s a part of a group that buys a smaller market team – in the range of the Royals or Brewers.

Maybe, just maybe, it could be the Tigers – since their owner is really old – since Derek is from there. But, it won’t be cheap.

If Magic Johnson can own a piece of the Dodgers then there’s no reason why Jeter can’t own a piece of the Yanks. I don’t know if Derek would want to be a junior partner but I don’t think he’s got the cash to own the Royals or Brewers anyway so he’d have to be a partner with someone in any ownership scenario, whether that’s in New York or elsewhere.

      @ MJ Recanati:
Didn’t Johnson also make a ton of money after his playing career?

Not saying the Jeter has not as well, or, that Magic was paid close to what Jeter makes…

It’s just that I think Johnson is a face in LA while others have the deep pockets, and, I think Jeter wants to be more than a face.
