I have said this before, and, I still believe it. There is no doubt in my mind that he is a major league caliber pitcher. And, he should be in a big league starting rotation, now, somewhere. I think he’s got the stuff to be a 15-game winner, on the right team.

With our starter questions, Phelps is too good and too cheap to trade. That was a strong outing against a good portion of the Botox starters last night. Keep him in the pen until someone gets hurt, and someone will get hurt. DP be needed this year and in the future.

I like Phelps; the first time I saw him pitch, I was struck my the similarity of his mechanics to the mechanics of Michael Cole Mussina…

Phelps could win 15 games with the right team. So could just about any halfway decent pitcher…with the right team. Lance Lynn and Jorge de la Rosa won 15 games in 2013 with middling peripherals. Jeremy Guthrie won 15 for the Royals, too. Phelps looks like a #4-5 starter to me. He needs better command.

That said, I wouldn’t mind him as the #5 starter this year.

Phil Hughes won 18 games in 2010. Just saying.
BTW, he’ll probably do OK for the Twins out of the spotlight, and in that big ballpark.
