Two Yankees players 2016 season total stats, as of this morning:

    G PA R H 2B RBI SB BB SO BA OBP OPS+
    61 248 19 60 10 25 2 10 42 .253 .286 88
    59 216 18 54 10 21 2 9 24 .266 .299 82

The one on the bottom is Didi Gregorius. The one on the top is Starlin Castro. With the bat, as they are in age, they are the same.  And, neither one of them can hit for bleep.

Leaving aside stats, just by watching them, I feel like Castro has a decent shot at hitting well enough for a 2nd baseman. He seems to have OK plate discipline.

Didi seems like he swings for the fences no matter the pitch or the situation.

Actually, Castro has no control of the strike zone. His on base average is terrible – like Didi’s

Actually, Didi’s year is similar to last year, although the bad start was shorter this time around. He wound up at 3.3 bWAR last year, and 3.1 fWAR, good enough for 4th among all regular MLB shortstops.

Last 31 games for Didi: .313/.358/.452.

Castro’s gone the other way after a hot start, but then Castro’s always been very streaky, because of his poor control of the K zone. For his part, Adam Warren has pitched badly as of late, after a hot start of his own.
