Since 1973, there have ONLY been FOUR Yankees players to have 10+ seasons with the team where they played enough to qualify for the league batting title:

Rk Name Yrs From To Age
    1 Derek Jeter 18 1996 2014 22-40 Ind. Seasons
    2 Bernie Williams 13 1993 2005 24-36 Ind. Seasons
    3 Don Mattingly 11 1984 1995 23-34 Ind. Seasons
    4 Willie Randolph 10 1977 1987 22-32 Ind. Seasons

And, it’s going to be a long time before someone joins this group.

I know that Winfield didn’t play 10 years w/ the Yanks, but wasn’t he originally signed for ten years? I was looking at his numbers on http://www.baseball-reference.com/, and was looking at his numbers year by year. Then I looked at the numbers for Jim Rice, and Jack Clark. All three players were Great hitters, but their OPS numbers show what strong men could do, without any “supplements”. And then I looked up Ted Williams career, and man, if I read his batting line, and didn’t know who he was, I’d say ‘roids in a second. And it wasn’t as though he was an avid “muscle-head” either. What freak of Nature he was! I need to learn how to actually use baseball-ref’s tools. There must be hundred of tidbits in there to ponder!

Don’t forget that Winny took a year off for his “bad back” – which I swear he did just to stick it to George.

      @ Steve L.:
I remember that clearly, but unless “me” eyes are playin’ tricks, I could have sworn that I saw his year-by-year ages, and I didn’t the missing year. I need to check that out again!

That always killed me because he had a “bad back” meanwhile, that summer, in the papers we saw pictures of him riding roller coasters with his new bride as he was on his honeymoon, IIRC. Bad back, my ass.
