Very cool that Cody Bellinger is wearing #35, like his dad. Of course, Clay has two rings. So, Cody has some catching up to do in that department.

I don’t know what the ring policy of the Angels was back then–nowadays anyone who spent a day on the roster gets one, as they should since it was somewhat arbitrary before, just ask Gerald Williams and Bob Wickman–but Clay may have a third ring from the Angels in 2002 since he played two games for them that season.

If so, that’d mean he earned three World Series rings and one AL Pennant ring (2001 Yankees) for his four seasons in the bigs. Not bad!

The only player ring of the 2002 World Champion Anaheim Angels to surface at auction thus far is that of Clay Bellinger, whose showpiece sold for just shy of $18,000 in 2013.

Ha! Great catch. I can see where that particular ring wouldn’t mean much to you after getting two while being on the roster and spending a substantial part of the season with a team.

As I recall, he made some great defensive plays in the 2000 World Series, in particular game two in the 9th inning when it quickly went from a blowout to a one-run game.

Still, classy of the Angels to take care of everyone before it was mandated. It never sat well with me that the Yankees used to get cheap with players.
