That’s the Yankees record this season since May 9th.

Sure, injuries is part of it. But, Castro was coming back down to earth before he got hurt. In fact, Castro and Gregorius are basically just league average hitters, despite their batting average, and would not be hitting in the heart of the line-up of a good team. Don’t even get me started on the production that the Yankees get from first and third base.

Still too many guys over 32 pulling this team down. And, the pitching is a mess sans a few bright spots.

If Judge ever goes into a deep and prolonged slump, it’s going to get even worse.

Bob Klapisch suggests, ” move Aaron Judge to first base, and give Clint Frazier full-time responsibilities in the outfield until Aaron Hicks returns and then let those two sort it out”. He says Judge played 1st base in HS. He goes on, “Judge’s size makes him a prime candidate, and not just because of his height and wingspan – an infielder’s dream target from across the diamond. No, Judge’s mass becomes an issue every time he goes hard after a fly ball. He toppled headfirst into the seats in foul territory in Fenway in April, and has semi-crashed a handful of times into the right field wall at the Stadium.”

Bird and Austin don’t sound like they’ll be back anytime soon.

Last night they designated Carter again and recalled infielder Ji-Man Choi, who played 54 games for the Angels in 2016, from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and added him to the active roster. That doesn’t sound like a great option.

I think Klapisch’s idea may be a good one.

None of this matters if the relief pitching keeps giving up games. Going back to the road series against LAA, too many games with blown leads late in game. If they were even league average in late inning relief then likely still in first place or very close to it.

I think Klapisch is nuts. The kid is having a landmark year in the history of the most storied franchise in sports and he wants him to change positions in the middle of all that, change to a position he last played in high school!

Yeah, sticking Judge at 1B when he’s a very good RF with a great OF arm sort of makes little sense at this point. Plus, Frazier hasn’t proven anything yet.

I would rather see them play Matt Holliday at 1B once he’s back and use the DH spot for one of the OFers, cycling them through it. Make it a rotational thing.

Or, maybe bring back Miguel Andujar and move Headley to 1B. It’s not like he’s a stellar 3B.

      @ Steve L.:
The problem with that idea is that the Organization doesn’t hold Andujar’s glove in high esteem.

Scoring runs isn’t their problem. Its getting starters past the 5th and decent bullpen outings.
