Some bad things here? Sure. And, was Big Stein someone who would throw someone under a bus, without breaking a sweat, to save his own skin? Yes. But, I still think the Yankees miss him – because he was a mover and a shaker. What do you think?
Related, on August 2nd, 2009, from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm, author and historian Marty Appel will be at the Yogi Berra Museum to discuss the influence of former Yankee great Thurman Munson on the 30th anniversary of his death, followed by a signing of his book, “Munson: The Life and Death of a Yankee Captain.” If you’re in the area, this is one that you might want to check out!
Bob Raissman, Jonas Schwartz, Joe Benigno, and Frank Isola on SNY’s Daily News Live (yesterday) discuss Alex Rodriguez, Brian Cashman, and their personality foibles. Here’s the video:
The sad part of this, for me, is that R.S.N. is going to take over Cooperstown on Rickey’s big day. Should make it an ugly day for any Yankees fans who make the trip there to see Henderson…I would imagine.
Julia Ruth-Stevens, the Big Bam’s daughter…who, by the way, did a nice job throwing out the ceremonial first pitch for the last game at this Yankee Stadium, laments about the closing of “The House That Ruth Built.” The video via SNY.tv:
I have to say…it’s going to be strange for me…having heard the Stadium be called “The House That Ruth Built” for my whole life…and not it has to stop. You cannot call the new Stadium “The House That Ruth Built” because it’s not the same structure.
Sweeny Murti wraps up Mike Mussina’s win last night – along with some reaction from Moose, Joe Girardi and Bobby Abreu. The video via SNY.tv:
I paused for a minute, viewing this, when Mussina said “I won the last game that I pitched at Yankee Stadium.” Maybe he should have said “I won the last game that I pitched at this Yankee Stadium”? That’s what he meant, right?
Joe Girardi, Xavier Nady and Derek Jeter talk about Mo Rivera becoming #2 on the all-time saves list. The video via SNY.tv:
Mariano’s been at it for a loooong time. When he got his first career save, on May 17, 1996, Joe Giradi batted second and Derek Jeter batted eighth for the Yankees that day. Another cool thing: Lee Smith pitched for the Angels, against the Yankees, in that game where Rivera got his first career save – and now Mo has passed him.
