Since June 19th, Didi Gregorius has a BA/OBA/SLG line of .299/.343/.402 (in 180 PA). And, that’s impressive.

But, to be candid, when I see this, I think back to 2011 when everyone wanted to throw that “Kevin Long has fixed Curtis Granderson!” parade…and then the Grandyman went back to being “K”urtis Granderson.

Then again, Gregorius did hit a bit, at times, in the minors. Maybe he is just coming into his own now?

In any event, with the glove, while he’s not Andrelton Simmons or Brandon Crawford, having Gregorius in the field has been a positive, overall, for the Yankees (this year). And, he just might be the best fielding SS in the American League for 2015.

I’m surprised he’s hitting so well. He goes up there appearing to swing for the fences.

Difference between the two is that Granderson was already a developed player before the Yanks “fixed” him. (And by the way, Granderson’s having a much better year than last year now that Long is the Mets hitting coach. Of course, sitting him against a lot of lefties could have something to do with it. Still a 121 OPS+ is pretty good.)

Didi was undeveloped before the Yanks got him. It’s clear that his approach has changed, but teams haven’t adjusted yet. When they change their patterns to adjust to his changes, and he has to counter-adjust, then we’ll know.

Hey! Check out the OPS numbers for D. Ortiz, Melky, and Cano since the All-Star game. Lots of “rice and beans, man”.
