It’s August 25th and the Yankees are 3.5 up in the wildcard.
    Show of hands…who expected this?
Girardi deserves manager of the year.

I didn’t expect them to be 3.5 games up. I expected them to win about 88 and be in the race for the wild card. I didn’t think the middle of the AL pack would be this mediocre. Still time for at least 2 others teams to emerge and challenge.

      Re: Girardi…
Oddly enough, this is the team’s worst performance in one and two-run games since he became manager, and thus, the team’s worst performance in Actual vs. Pythagorean record. So the evidence for him winning Manager of the Year isn’t there.

I thought they’d be in the thick of things, either contending for a division title or the wild card. But that was more to the division being weak than the strength of the Yanks.

I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the season. I don’t know if Girardi would win manager of the year over AJ Hinch.

Did not think they’d be too serious for the division, but definitely on wild card. Thing is, they’re much better now than they were when they were winning in the first half, so all they need to do is play to their level. Excellent turnout so far for this team.

Amazing development in their young players. Had the bullpen not coughed up so many leads, we’d be looking at pushing 100 wins (better yet, most of the “coughers” have be purged). Credit goes to Cashman and the Organization, Girardi, not so much. Pushing buttons according to his algorithms is something a computer could do. IMHO, his thinking has grown increasingly rigid (keeps him employed), but man, he could have used a “Zimmer” as a bench coach….
